I cannot believe I’ve gone three years of living in Napa without visiting O’Brien Estate. This may just be Oak Knoll’s best kept secret. Yep, I said it. Keep reading to find out why this winery completely stole my heart.
They know what they’re doing when it comes to red wine
Red wine lovers, rejoice! If you have not been to O’Brien Estate – call right now and book an appointment! O’Brien is an incredibly small winery that is family owned (the owners live right on the property!) and sells everything directly out of the winery. You cannot find this anywhere but directly from the winery itself.

Cheese, wine, vineyard views – what’s better?
Living in the Napa Valley and tasting at lots of wineries, I’d say my expectations are pretty high. O’Brien fully exceeded them! Their Merlot’s and Cabernets can stand up to some of the best in the valley. You can taste the care, craftsmanship and passion that’s put into each bottle. All of their wines are made from the 33 acres of estate vineyards that are right there on the property – in fact, your entire tasting is outside amongst the vines.

Beautiful Cabernet grapes in the estate vineyard.
To be honest, I had a really hard time deciding what my favorite wine of the lineup was. Do I have to choose? I did however really enjoy their 2015 Merlot, their Merlot blends; Seduction and Romance the Heart, their 205 Cabernet Sauvignon and Reserve Cabernet. I tend to lean towards reds however they had a wonderful Chardonnay for you white wine lovers!
Down-home, intimate, genuine setting, plus they have a winery dog
All of the O’Brien staff was very friendly, genuine and knowledgable of the wines and the Napa Valley in general. You instantly feel comfortable and at home when tasting here. No stuffiness here!

Keep pouring that Cabernet…
Oh and make sure to give Heidi, the winery dog a pet for me! She’s practically famous, as she is the cover model on this years Winery Dogs book.

When I die, I’d like to come back reincarnated as a winery dog.
If you’re looking for a winery that will deliver on the experience, hospitatliy, wine and scenery – visit O’Brien. I already have my next tasting booked!
Cheers,
Raquel
