A Day in Lodi Wine Country: Where to Wine Taste in Lodi

October 20, 2022
Where to Wine Taste in Lodi

Wine tasting in Lodi should be on every wine lover’s list. While it’s most known for big, bold reds, there are some Lodi wineries that offer impressive white wines, too. This distinct area has proven itself for hundreds of years and we’re lucky enough to experience (and taste) it. If you’re wondering where to wine taste in Lodi, these are the places you need to know!

Where is Lodi?

Lodi is a notable wine region in Northern California. It is nestled between the San Francisco Bay and Sierra Nevada Mountains. Lodi has been in the grape-growing business since the mid-1800’s and is continuing to make big strides in the wine world. This area is best known for it’s Zinfandel, due to it’s unique soil and mild temperatures. In fact, it’s known as the Zinfandel Capital of the world and produces 40% of California’s Zinfandels.

Why You Should Visit Lodi Wine Country

Lodi is home to some of the oldest grape vines– specifically of the Zinfandel variety. If you’re into the big, red wines, like Zin, Lodi is the place to visit. During your trip, visit several of the 40+ wineries in the Lodi region, most of which are rich in wine history. In addition to Zinfandel, you will find an impressive production of Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and even some Rhone varietals.

Where to Wine Taste in Lodi

Lodi is home to many world-class wineries, making it hard to narrow down the list. But, these Lodi wineries have made their impression on me– and that says something!

Harney Lane Winery

Harney Lane Winery has been sharing their rich history of winemaking since the early 1900’s. Today, they produce a Certified Historic Lizzy James Old Vine Zinfandel, in addition to their patriarchy blend and wonderful port. Enjoy a peaceful wine tasting on their rustic and charming patio.

McCay Cellars

Through Native Fermentation, McCay Cellars produces an incredible Zinfandel and a line of Rhone varietals. They source fruit from some of the oldest vineyards in Lodi. The McCay family, who I had the privilege of meeting, has been producing wine since 1994. Book a tasting at their beautiful downtown tasting room or stop by the McCay Coffee House for an early morning cup o’ Joe!

Aquiesce Winery

Acquiesce Winery, which produces only white Rhone varietals, left a lasting impression on me. This female-owned winery won the “Best Woman Winemaker in the 2022” in the International Women’s Wine Competition and rightly so. They sourced their vines from Château de Beaucastel of Châteauneuf du Pape, France, which produces truly incredible white wines.

M2 Wines

M2 Wines produces artisan style wines in the greater Lodi area. They produce Zinfandel, Tannat, Petite Sirah and Vermentino. I really enjoyed their Old Vine Zinfandel. The modern tasting room makes for a fun experience with beautiful views.

Prie Winery

Prie is a boutique winery with a small production. However, they offer some unusual and delicious varietals that you don’t often see in California wine country, like Dornfelder and Nebiollo.

These are just a handful of the best wineries in Lodi and would make for an amazing day of wine tasting in wine country!

Where to Eat in Lodi

Not only does Lodi offer impressive wine, but also delicious food! Finish your day of wine tasting at one of my favorite dining spots:

Pietros

Pietros is a small family owned restaurant that offers awesome, authentic Italian food. If you ask me, it’s the perfect way to finish a day of delicious wine tasting.

Dancing Fox

Dancing Fox is a winery and brewery in Lodi– offering something everyone will enjoy. The vibes are more casual and fun and the variety of American food is yummy!

If you’re traveling from out of town, book a room at Wine & Rose. This is hands down the best hotel in town, featuring a great restaurant and spa, too. It’s quaint, yet innovative!

Cheers,

Raquel
